The Story

A bradoon is used in conjunction with a curb bit. The difference between a bradoon and a regular bit lies in its thickness and the size of the rings.

The olive-head bradoon is characterized by a fixed lateral ring. The sides are designed to sit about one centimeter closer to the corner of the mouth compared to a water bit. The olive head prevents pinching of the corners of the mouth in the rings. The horse cannot press the bit up with its tongue, so the mouthpiece lies more quietly in the mouth and is stabilized slightly more laterally. Since the ring does not rotate, there is a slightly more direct action with a mild effect on the poll. However, the difference from a water bit is not noticeable for the horse or most riders.

The double-jointed mouthpiece distributes pressure evenly across the tongue and bars. The olive head provides light lateral stabilization and guidance, creating calm and stability in the horse's mouth.

Advantages at a Glance:

  • Effectiveness:
    • Quiet position in the horse's mouth
    • Even pressure distribution over the tongue and bars

Suitable For:

  • Sensitive horses
  • Horses making their first experiences with a curb bit
  • Horses that need minimal lateral stability
  • This bit can also be used for ponies as an olive-head bit due to its size
